Lectures on tides | ||
"Lectures on tides" is a collection of handwritten
lecture notes on tidal theory, which Dahlen used as early as Fall
1975. It is contained in a light blue loose leaf binder. In
addition to Dahlen's handwritten notes, a few pages are print-outs
from the 1970 Annual Review of Fluid Mechanics, which can be found
here.
All other references can be found on the starting page.
The lectures themselves begin with the history of tidal theory, starting at ancient views of tides, then moving on to Newton's explanations, to Lord Kelvin's apparatus, and ending with the "current" knowledge at the time, which for these lectures centered around 1975. These were used for a series of four lectures to be used for the course GFD 506. This collection can be found at: Guyot Hall, Princeton, NJ, 08544. Back to Main Page |
